Paul F. Campos serves as Professor of Law at the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder, where he has taught since 1990 after leaving a Chicago law firm. His academic home resides within the university's Law School, focusing on constitutional interpretation and legal theory through rigorous scholarship and teaching.
Specializing in Constitutional Law, Legal Philosophy, Legislative Process, and Property, Professor Campos integrates literary theory training from his graduate studies in English literature into constitutional interpretation. His research critically examines the political and normative foundations of constitutional theory, challenging conventional academic approaches through provocative analysis of American legal institutions.
Professor Campos maintains an active teaching schedule with courses including Statutory Interpretation, Property, Economics of the American Legal System, and Seminar: Theory of Punishment extending through Fall 2025. He previously served as the inaugural director of CU Law School's Byron R. White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law and contributes regular commentary on political, social, and legal issues through a widely-read column for the Rocky Mountain News.
His scholarly output includes notable law review publications such as "Against Constitutional Theory" (Yale Journal of Law and Humanities) and "Advocacy in Scholarship" (California Law Review), both recognized as significant critiques of contemporary constitutional theory. He has authored two major books: Jurismania: The Madness of American Law, which critiques the American legal system, and a work exploring connections between the obesity myth and Lewinsky scandal presented in the 27th Annual Austin W. Scott, Jr. Lecture.
