Paul Ekins is Professor of Resources and Environment Policy at University College London's Bartlett School of Environment, Energy & Resources, where he directs the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. With a PhD in economics from the University of London, his career spans over three decades in sustainability policy, including roles as Co-Director of the UK Energy Research Centre (2004-2019) and membership in UNEP's International Resource Panel.
His research focuses on:
- Environmental economics and policy design
- Climate change mitigation strategies
- Resource efficiency and circular economy
- Sustainable energy transitions
- Governance of natural resources
Recent publications analyze trends in sustainability metrics, decarbonization policies, and the intersection of ecological limits with socioeconomic systems. His 2023 book, Stopping Climate Change, synthesizes pathways to achieve net-zero emissions through technological, behavioral, and policy innovations.
