Paul Bentley

Paul Bentley is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Neurologist within the Department of Brain Sciences, Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, serving as Clinical Director of the Imperial College Network Of Excellence in Rehabilitation Technology.

His educational background includes medical training at Cambridge and UCL, a research fellowship at Harvard University's Psychology Department, and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UCL. He holds the distinction of being the first UK neurologist dually-accredited in stroke medicine by the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr. Bentley's research integrates wearables, sensors, robotics, and AI to revolutionize healthcare diagnostics and treatment. His group focuses on neuroimaging, behavioral monitoring, and physical exercise rehabilitation, with notable achievements including a portable gaming device for home physiotherapy (deployed across 350+ centers globally), automated CT scan analytics for stroke/dementia severity assessment adopted by international registries, and pioneering stem cell trials for stroke treatment. His work demonstrates that post-stroke paralysis stems from damage to both motor and executive brain regions.
