Paul Anderson is an Associate Professor in the Department of American Studies at Indiana University Bloomington, College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. (1997) and M.A. (1993) in History from Cornell University, and a B.A. summa cum laude in Philosophy and History from the University of Pittsburgh (1989).
His research examines 20th-century U.S. cultural landscapes through interdisciplinary lenses, with emphases on:
- African-American intellectual traditions and cultural production
- Music as historical artifact and mnemonic device
- Critical theory applications in American studies
- Popular culture as social discourse (1920-1980)
His publication explores music's role in shaping collective memory during the Harlem Renaissance, situating artistic expression within broader sociopolitical contexts of African-American experience.
