Paul-Alain Beaulieu is a Professor of Assyriology at the University of Toronto, specializing in the civilizations of ancient Mesopotamia. He holds a PhD from Yale University and has held academic positions at Yale, Harvard, and Notre Dame before joining Toronto in 2006. His research focuses on Babylonian history, cuneiform archives, and intellectual history, with a geographic emphasis on Babylonia and temporal focus on the first millennium BC. He teaches courses on Akkadian/Sumerian languages, cuneiform script, and Mesopotamian civilization, including a popular first-year seminar contrasting Babylon’s historical reality with mythological depictions.
