Paul A. M. van Lange is Professor of Psychology at VU Amsterdam and affiliated as Distinguished Research Fellow at the University of Oxford.
His research focuses on human cooperation and trust grounded in psychological, cultural, and evolutionary theorizing of prosocial processes including forgiveness, generosity, and empathy, as well as antisocial processes like distrust, hostility, hate, aggression, and violence. His work examines these topics through economic games, behavioral methods in cognition and social decision making, and various biological mechanisms including fMRI and hormonal analysis.
