معرفی
Patrik Karlsson is a Professor at the Department of Social Work, Stockholm University, with a focus on addiction studies, substance use policy, and adolescent behavior. He leads the Addiction Research Group (ARG) and is part of the Substance Use Group (SUG), examining legal/illegal substance use and behavioral issues like gambling. His work bridges epidemiological research on alcohol and cannabis use with critical analyses of treatment practices and policy implications.
Research interests include social inequalities in substance-related harm, treatment efficacy, and the socio-political dimensions of drug policies. Ongoing projects explore Nordic drug policy shifts, trajectories of youth substance use, and craving mechanisms in addiction recovery. Karlsson has published extensively on adolescent alcohol use disorders, cannabis normalization, and the psychometric validity of diagnostic criteria in youth populations.
His recent publications (2023-2024) analyze drinking transitions, ADHD-cannabis links, and the role of urine testing in youth treatment. He critiques prohibitionist policies through media analysis and advocates for evidence-based interventions while highlighting methodological challenges in treatment research. Key interests also include social work practices for vulnerable groups and the interface between individual behavior and structural factors in addiction.
