Patrik Ahlm is an artistic lecturer in music with a focus on music production at the Department of Music and Visual Arts, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Linnaeus University. He previously served as program manager for the Music Production Program until 2018 and has since focused on teaching songwriting courses, including the Singer-songwriter I & II course package totaling 60 credits with emphasis on music, text, and the music industry. Ahlm is actively involved in program and course development within the department's artistic bachelor's degree programs and promotes international student exchanges, having served as a guest lecturer at universities in Germany (Popakademie), Belgium (PXL Music), and England (Bath Spa University).
His research focuses on fundamental questions about songwriting: What constitutes a pop song? Can hit songwriting be learned? Is songwriting a teachable technical skill within artistic craft? Through practical collaboration with student groups and his own musical work, Ahlm investigates songwriting mechanisms in modern music creation to reproduce and predict trends in contemporary songwriting. His work examines how music is created from initial melody and lyrics concepts through arrangement, recording, mixing, and mastering in music studios.

His work demonstrates expertise in song structure, melodic development, harmonic progression, and vocal production. Ahlm actively supervises students in their bachelor's degree projects and has developed teaching materials including 'Math Songs: Songs to Math Music - A Method for Subject-Integrated Learning' published by Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company in 2010. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the technical aspects of songwriting as an artistic craft that can be developed through structured learning and practice.
As a practitioner, Ahlm is active as a songwriter, musician, and music producer with a focus on self-publishing. His recent releases include multiple singles and albums, demonstrating his applied expertise in contemporary music production.
