Patrick van Schaik is a Lecturer in the Excellence and Innovation in Education research group at HZ University of Applied Sciences. His role focuses on fostering regional collaboration to enhance educational quality, emphasizing learning cultures in educational organizations, leadership roles, and external connections. Born and raised in Goes, Zeeland, van Schaik has over 20 years of experience in education, spanning roles as a physical education teacher, department head, and educational researcher.
Van Schaik holds a Master's in Educational Sciences from Utrecht University (2015) and a PhD in Pedagogical and Educational Sciences from the University of Amsterdam (2020). His doctoral research examined knowledge-sharing in teacher development groups. Since 2021, he has led initiatives such as the Companion Research project on regional educational networks and the Scan Healthcare Institution study. He also chairs the Platform Leadership in Education and serves on the National Educational Research Agency's Program Committee and LEPOVO's scientific advisory board.
His research projects address challenges like youth professional resilience, bridging primary/secondary education, and the influence of career guidance on student choices. Collaborations include Oberon Research & Advice, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
