Patrick O'Callaghan is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University College Cork (UCC) School of Law and Principal Investigator of the 'Law and the Inner Self Project,' funded by a Research Ireland Laureate Grant. He joined UCC in 2014 after teaching at Newcastle University, UK, and conducting doctoral research at the Centre for European Law and Politics (ZERP), Universität Bremen, Germany. His work focuses on personality rights, privacy law, freedom of thought, and legal history, employing interdisciplinary methods from the law and humanities field.
He has led over 16 international research projects and received awards such as the UCC Research Collaboration of the Year (2023) and the Irish Research Council Laureate Award (2022). At UCC, he teaches Jurisprudence and Torts to undergraduates and mentors postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. His research explores legal frameworks safeguarding mental autonomy, including the right to be forgotten, privacy, and the interplay between law, memory, and cognitive integrity.
Research Grants: Notable grants include a €595k Research Ireland Laureate Award (2022–2026) and prior funding from the Irish Research Council and EU programs.
