Dr. Patrick Lin is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the Singapore campus of James Cook University. He holds a PhD (2015) and Master of Social Sciences (2007) from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and a B.A. (Specialized Honours in Psychology) from York University, Toronto (2004). His research focuses on interpersonal attraction, effects of priming, and Hikikomori (social withdrawal), particularly exploring links between childhood adversity and adult social withdrawal in Asian populations. Current projects investigate how childhood trauma influences Hikikomori tendencies through factors like technology addiction and executive functioning.
Teaching interests include research methods, statistics (courses PY2107, PY4113), and social psychology (PY3102). Key publications span 2007–2025, addressing topics like God priming effects, cross-cultural gaming disorder pathways, and LGBTQ relationship resilience. Awards include the Academic Achievement Award for his York University Honours thesis (2004).
Research methods emphasize mediation/moderation analysis and factor analysis. Notable contributions include systematic reviews on prosocial behavior and curiosity dimensions. Collaborations with international researchers highlight interdisciplinary approaches to psychological phenomena.
