Patrick Kestemont is a Professor at the University of Namur, affiliated with the Department of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology. He leads research focusing on aquaculture sustainability, ecotoxicology, and fish physiology. His work addresses environmental challenges like endocrine disruptors and nanoparticle impacts. Kestemont holds a Doctor of Science from the University of Namur (1988), specializing in fish reproduction and larval growth.
Research interests include fish domestication, stress physiology, and the ecological effects of pollutants. Notable projects include rehabilitating Atlantic salmon in the Mosan basin and exploring sustainable aquaculture in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. His studies often integrate transcriptomics, microbiota analysis, and behavioral tracking.
Kestemont has supervised over 100 research works and actively collaborates on transboundary water monitoring and eco-toxicological modeling. He frequently presents at international conferences and contributes to aquaculture education initiatives.
