معرفی
Valerie Cornet is a researcher at the University of Namur's Research Unit in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology. Her work focuses on environmental toxicology, aquatic ecosystems, and the impacts of pollutants on fish physiology and microbiota. She has contributed to projects like FEAMP (rehabilitating Atlantic salmon in the Mosan basin under climate change) and FISHMICROBIOPLAST (studying microplastic effects on zebrafish microbiota and immunity). Her research integrates molecular, physiological, and ecological approaches to address SDGs related to life below water and climate action.
Key research interests include nanoparticle toxicity in fish (e.g., ZnO/TiO₂ effects on trout gills), microplastic interactions with aquatic organisms, and pathogen resistance mechanisms in fish. She has presented findings at conferences on topics like ω3 fatty acids' protective roles against cadmium exposure and Aeromonas infections.
Her work has been recognized with the Irène Manton Poster Prize (2015). She collaborates internationally on projects analyzing radiation resistance in ants and desiccation tolerance in bdelloid rotifers, highlighting ancestral survival mechanisms. Valerie has supervised five doctoral/master's works and engages in science communication through media contributions about microbiota-pathogen interactions and aquatic toxicology.
