Patrick Haughey is a Professor of Architectural History in the School of Building Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design (since 2001). He holds a Ph.D. from MIT, an M.Arch. from the University of Washington, and a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from UC Davis. His work focuses on architectural history, urbanism, colonialism, and economic history, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of design, politics, and capitalism.
His research has been supported by grants including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Global Architecture History Collaborative Grant (2015–2019) and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Notable publications include Legacies of Colonialism: Towards an Architectural History of Capitalism (2018) and Buildings of Savannah (2016). He has presented widely on topics such as 'Architectures of the Slave Economy' and 'Spatial Politics.'
Prof. Haughey is affiliated with organizations like the Society of Architectural Historians, American Association of Geographers, and Georgia Historical Society. He co-directed the 8th and 9th Savannah Symposia on architecture and urbanism. His teaching spans SCAD, Northeastern University, and other institutions, with recognition including a Northeastern University Excellence in Teaching nomination.
