Daniel Williamson is a Professor of Art and Architectural History at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he has held the position since 2011. His academic career includes adjunct roles at institutions like the City College of New York (2007–08) and visiting scholar positions at CEPT University in India (2008–09). Williamson specializes in architectural history with a focus on modernist architecture, particularly in India, and the interplay between cultural identity and urban development.
Education includes a Ph.D. in History of Art and Archaeology from New York University, an M.Arch. in Architectural History from the University of Virginia, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Williams College. He has received prestigious awards such as the Erwin Panofsky Fellowship (2005–2010) and the White-Levy Summer Travel Grant (2006).
His research explores themes like Le Corbusier’s influence in Ahmedabad, sustainable design practices in post-independence India, and the global networks shaping modern architectural education. Key publications include works on Brutalism and studies of Balkrishna Doshi’s housing projects, currently under peer review for SAH Archipedia.
Williamson is an active member of organizations such as the Society of Architectural Historians and the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy. His presentations at international conferences highlight his expertise in Indian architectural history, including analyses of CEPT University’s role in modernist movements and the cultural significance of Le Corbusier’s designs in Ahmedabad.
