Patrick Ellsworth

Patrick Ellsworth, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, specializing in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology. A significant portion of his work focuses on mechanisms of thrombosis in emicizumab therapy for hemophilia A, as well as improving treatment for breakthrough bleeding in patients receiving this non-factor therapy.

His recent publications (2018-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on hemophilia management, particularly regarding emicizumab therapy, as well as continued investigation into sickle cell disease pathophysiology. His work spans both clinical research examining real-world treatment outcomes and basic science exploring the underlying mechanisms of coagulation disorders. He has also published in related fields including urology and psychology methodology.

Dr. Ellsworth is actively involved in clinical care, with particular emphasis on improving transitions from pediatric to adult care for patients with sickle cell disease in multidisciplinary settings.
