Roger Schutgens is Full Professor and Consultant Haematologist at the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMC Utrecht), where he leads the Van Creveldkliniek—a national expertise center for rare, inherited benign hematologic and clotting disorders. His responsibilities span clinical care, research, and education in benign hematology and hemostasis.

Research Interests:
Prof. Schutgens focuses on patients predisposed to bleeding, congenital platelet abnormalities and hypercoagulable states, with translational programs in thrombosis & hemostasis and inherited bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease. His teams investigate optimum outcome parameters in multidisciplinary settings, novel treatment modalities, and the integration of physiotherapy and nursing interventions to improve patient care.
Recent work explores laboratory assay accuracy for new factor concentrates, postpartum hemorrhage risk in women with inherited bleeding disorders, metabolic profiling in sickle cell disease, and subclinical joint bleeding detected by MRI in severe hemophilia patients on prophylaxis.
