Patrick Camangian

Patrick Camangian is Professor of Teacher Education at the University of San Francisco. His scholarship integrates critical pedagogy, health science, and transformative justice to address urban educational inequities. Camangian's work critiques hegemonic systems like SEL (social-emotional learning) and advances humanizing alternatives centering youth agency and community healing.

Recent publications analyze toxic masculinity dismantling, autoethnographic methods, and abolitionist teaching. He collaborates with K-12 schools to develop culturally sustaining curricula and teacher retention strategies.

Awards include USF's Community Distinguished Research Award (2022) and AERA's Scholar Activist Award (2016). Camangian taught in Oakland and Los Angeles public schools for 17 years.
