Patrick Avila, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. His clinical practice and research focus spans gastroenterology, advanced endoscopy, and health policy.
Dr. Avila completed his medical education at Stanford University School of Medicine (MD, 2013) and a Master of Public Health from UC Berkeley (2012). His clinical training includes Internal Medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital (2016) and Gastroenterology fellowship at UCSF (2019), followed by Advanced Endoscopy training at UCSF (2020).
His research interests include therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, health policy, health care innovation, health disparities research, colorectal cancer prevention, and diversity and inclusion in Medicine. His work bridges technical endoscopic procedures with broader healthcare system issues, examining both clinical interventions and population health approaches.
