Patricia Stout

Dr. Patricia Stout is a Clinical Associate Professor at the College of Nursing, University of Rhode Island. She teaches undergraduate and graduate nursing students and integrates clinical expertise in primary care, critical care, cardiac rehabilitation, and medical-surgical nursing into her pedagogy. She collaborates with Intercultural Nursing, Inc. to lead service trips to the Dominican Republic, enhancing student experiential learning opportunities.

Dr. Stout’s research focuses on cancer prevention strategies, particularly addressing human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination gaps to reduce oropharyngeal cancer risks. Her work extends to optimizing clinical practices in healthcare settings, including shift handoffs and capillary refill assessments, aiming to improve patient safety and care quality.

Her selected publications highlight contributions to clinical case studies, evidence-based protocols, and nursing education frameworks. These works span preventive medicine, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement, with subfields like HPV vaccination, clinical nursing practices, and experiential learning.
