Patricia R. Bazán serves as Professor of Language, Literature, and University Core within the Department of Literature, Languages, Writing, and Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where she has taught lower-level Spanish language courses and advanced literature/culture courses for over thirty-five years.
Her academic foundation includes a BA, MA, and PhD from New York University, providing expertise in Hispanic literary traditions and cultural studies.
Dr. Bazán's research centers on the Hispanicization of the United States, Argentine Generation of 1880, Boom Generation authors (Cortázar, Borges, Carpentier, García Márquez), Post-boom women writers (Allende, Esquivel, Peri Rossi), and Spanish-language short fiction. She extends her scholarship through interdisciplinary University Core Program courses in Cross-Cultural Perspectives and Global Issues.
As a creative writer, she published the anthology 'Cinco nébulas de obsesión' (2018) and novella 'Lazarillo en Londres' (2022), with the novel 'Misión cumplida con nébulas' (based on her Peruvian-American heritage) and border-crossing short story 'Silencio' forthcoming. Her seminal co-authored scholarly work 'The Hispanicization of the United States: The Latino Challenge to American Culture' (2017) analyzes Hispanic cultural impact on American society through decades of academic research.
