Vitulli's research centers on Baroque poetry, theater, and preaching in the Hispanic world. His work explores the cultural intersections between Spain and Latin America during the colonial period, with particular attention to the concept of "Criollo" as a floating signifier in Latin American identity formation. He has published extensively on figures such as Góngora, Cervantes, Espinosa Medrano, and Camargo, examining how baroque aesthetics intersect with religious, political, and social discourses of the period. His current research analyzes over 60 arts of preaching published in the Iberian Peninsula after the Council of Trent.
Vitulli has received numerous research grants including a 2024-2025 grant for "Remembering the Snow: Ecological Crisis and Memory in Rosario, Argentina" and multiple awards for conference presentations at LASA and other academic gatherings. He was a fellow at the John Carter Brown Library and recently completed a residency at the British Library studying the works of Andrés Ferrer de Valdecebro.
