Prof. Dr. Patricia Oster-Stierle holds the Chair of French Literature at Saarland University, appointed since 2003. She is a Senior Professor specializing in French and Italian literature within a European context, transnational histories, and comparative media theory. Her academic roles include membership in the DFG Research Training Group "European Dream Cultures" and editorial work on volumes like Europe en mouvement and Ausfluchtraum Europa. She has served as Vice President at the University of St. Gallen (2005–2012), President of the Franco-German University (2013–2017), and is a founding member of CEUS (2021). Currently, she chairs CEUS (2021–2023) and holds an honorary role since 2024.
Her research integrates media theory and cultural studies, exemplified by her seminar on Victor Hugo’s Notre-Dame de Paris, exploring media transformations from Gothic architecture to digital age narratives. She advises doctoral students like Julia Lichtenthal and collaborates with institutions such as the Colloques de Cerisy.
Awardees of the Legion of Honour and Federal Cross of Merit, her academic leadership spans university administration and cross-border academic initiatives. Her teaching focuses on French classics, intermediality, and literary analysis, with courses on Molière, Raymond Queneau, and French poetry.
