Patricia Easton is Professor of Humanities at Claremont Graduate University, where she also serves as Vice President of Strategy, leading institutional planning and transformation. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Western Ontario and a BA in Psychology & Philosophy from York University. Her academic leadership spans roles as dean, provost, and vice president in higher education.

Her research focuses on early modern philosophy, especially René Descartes and the Cartesians of the 17th century. She explores the philosophy of mind, history of science, and the mechanization of medicine and psychology. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary philosophical and scientific questions, particularly in psychosomatic theory and moral psychology.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in Cartesian empiricism, the development of medical philosophy within the Cartesian tradition, and interdisciplinary applications of early modern thought. She frequently examines figures such as Malebranche, Le Grand, and Bayle, situating their ideas within broader intellectual and institutional contexts of early modern science.

Patricia Easton advises doctoral students, including Melissa Gholamnejad, with whom she co-authored a significant work on Cartesian medical philosophy.
