معرفی
Professor Patric Turowski is a Professor of Vascular Signalling at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London. He has been with UCL since 2004, initially as a Lecturer in Ocular Cell Biology, then promoted to Senior Lecturer in Vascular Cell Biology in 2011, and currently holds the position of Professor of Vascular Signalling. He also served as a Visiting Professor at Uppsala University, Sweden from 2019 to 2021.
His educational background includes a PhD and Diploma from the University of Basel, Switzerland. His postdoctoral training included work at CNRS research institutes in Montpellier, France, and at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology under John Greenwood.
Professor Turowski's research focuses on signalling by reversible phosphorylation in neurovascular endothelial cell biology, with particular emphasis on: VEGF-independent regulation of pathological vascular leakage, regulation of leakage by caveolae, and drug transport across the blood-brain barrier. His work bridges vascular biology, neuroscience, and ophthalmology, with implications for understanding and treating conditions affecting the blood-brain and blood-retinal barriers.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on vascular permeability mechanisms, endothelial cell signaling pathways, and the development of diagnostic biomarkers for diabetic retinopathy and therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases. His research shows increasing interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple institutions and countries.

Professor Turowski serves on editorial boards for Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Cells, and Vascular Pharmacology. He was President of the UK Cell Adhesion Society in 2018 and participates in grant assessment for the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. At UCL, he teaches postgraduate courses on vascular permeability and barriers, experimental modeling techniques, and cell biology methods in eye research, and chairs the departmental Ophthalmology Basic & Applied Science Exam Board.
