Pascual Berrone

Pascual Berrone is a full Professor and Director of the Strategic Management Department at IESE Business School, where he holds the Schneider Electric Chair of Sustainability and Business Strategy. He serves as Vice President of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management and co-directs the IESE Cities in Motion platform. His academic leadership extends to founding the Strategic Madrid Group, which brings together global academics and professionals focused on strategic issues.

Professor Berrone's research spans three interconnected domains: corporate governance, social aspects of management, and family businesses, with particular emphasis on executive compensation, sustainable innovation, and corporate social responsibility. His work integrates institutional theory with socioemotional wealth perspectives to examine how firms balance financial and non-financial objectives. His current research focuses on urban governance, sustainability strategies, and the role of family ownership in environmental practices, particularly in emerging markets.

His extensive publication record in top-tier journals reveals a consistent trajectory exploring the intersection of strategic management, environmental sustainability, and institutional pressures. Recent work has increasingly focused on urban environments, sustainable development goals implementation, and the nuanced relationship between family ownership structures and environmental practices in China. His research demonstrates how different ownership types adopt norm-conforming environmental practices based on their underlying institutional logics.
