Belen Villalonga is a Professor of Management and Organizations and the Yamaichi Faculty Fellow at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University. She also holds a courtesy appointment as Professor of Finance. She joined NYU Stern in 2012 after serving on the faculty at Harvard Business School from 2001 to 2012.

She has developed and taught courses for students and executives in family business management and strategic management.
Her publications span top journals such as the Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, and Strategic Management Journal. The articles reveal a consistent focus on ownership structure, governance mechanisms, and strategic choices, particularly in family-controlled firms. Recent work extends into ESG performance and ownership influence on sustainability.
