Francisco Urzúa is a Professor in Finance at Bayes Business School, City, University of London, where he has been a faculty member since January 2019, initially as a Reader before being promoted in August 2024. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Professor at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, from 2013 to 2018.

His research centers on corporate finance and governance, with a particular emphasis on business groups, ownership structures, disclosure regulation, and privatization. He has made significant contributions to understanding internal capital markets, the effects of going public, and the role of peer financial disclosures.
His publications appear in leading journals such as The Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, and The Accounting Review. Recent research investigates funding contagion, mandatory disclosure effects on M&A, and the real effects of financial reporting. His 2020 paper on the privatization origins of political corporations won the Arthur Cole Prize.
