Paraic Finnerty is an Associate Professor of English and American Literature at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the School of Area Studies, Sociology, History, Politics and Literature and the Centre for Studies in Literature. His research focuses on American literature, early modern literature, and representations of masculinities, with particular expertise in Emily Dickinson's transatlantic connections.

His research explores Emily Dickinson's British literary heritage and global transnational connections, including her engagement with Victorian celebrity culture and gender representations. Current projects include Dickinson and her British Contemporaries, examining intersections with Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Browning, and George Eliot.
Recent publications analyze Dickinson's transatlantic reception, queer celebrity in media adaptations, and 19th-century cultural dynamics. Awards include an AHRC Early Career Fellowship and Copeland Fellowship at Amherst College.
