Dr Paola Filippucci serves as Senior College Lecturer in Social Anthropology at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, and holds an affiliated lecturer position in the Department of Social Anthropology. At Murray Edwards College, she combines academic leadership as Director of Studies and supervisor with student welfare responsibilities as Deputy Senior Tutor.
Her academic qualifications include:
- Undergraduate degree in Archaeology, University of Sheffield
- Master's degree in Anthropology, University of Cambridge
- Doctorate in Anthropology, University of Cambridge
Her research focuses on social memory, heritage, landscape anthropology, and material culture, with ethnographic fieldwork conducted in Italy, France, and Belgium/Flanders. A significant emphasis examines conflict and post-conflict scenarios through First World War battlefields of the Western Front, exploring intersections between historical memory, physical landscapes, and cultural heritage.
Dr Filippucci supervises PhD students and teaches specialized courses on kinship and the anthropology of Europe. She contributes to the Heritage MPhil programme in Archaeology and provides anthropology instruction for archaeology undergraduates through her affiliation with the Heritage Research Centre. Her project involvement includes CRIC (Cultural Heritage and the Reconstruction of Identities after Conflict 2008-2012) and the Plugstreet Project, which investigate heritage reconstruction in post-conflict regions and the historical significance of the Plugstreet battlefield area in Belgium.
