Panos Mavros is an Assistant Professor of Applied Psychology, Design, and Digital Technologies at Télécom Paris, part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris. He leads the INTERACT research team within the Economics and Social Sciences department, focusing on the intersection of design, behavior, and urban environments. His work integrates spatial cognition, psychophysiological methods like mobile EEG, and virtual reality to study human-environment interactions.
Education: B.Arch. from National Technical University of Athens (Greece), M.Sc. in Digital Media from University of Edinburgh (UK), and Ph.D. in Advanced Spatial Analysis and Environmental Psychophysiology from University College London. Postdoctoral research at Singapore-ETH Centre's Future Cities Laboratory explored cognition-perception-behavior in urban settings.
Research interests include spatial cognition, wayfinding, navigation, and the application of quantitative methods to user experience research. Current projects include the German-French DFG-ANR funded 'In-and-Out' project on indoor-outdoor spatial computing, and the SPACIOUS project on participatory urban design tools.
Teaching covers courses on environmental psychology, architectural cognition, and digital urban planning. Supervises student research projects and maintains active collaborations with institutions like ETH Zurich and University of Münster. His lab develops tools for cognitive-grounded design, including architectural cognition cards and VR prototyping frameworks.
Labs/Teams: INTERACT team (Télécom Paris), interdisciplinary collaborations with Future Cities Laboratory (Singapore-ETH Centre), and partnerships with Heatherwick Studio (London) for design cognition studies.
