Pamela Scully is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and African Studies at Emory University. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies in WGSS and Advisor to the Provost. With a Ph.D. in History from the University of Michigan, her research focuses on gender history, transnational feminist efforts addressing sexual violence in conflict, and African studies.
Her notable works include Writing Transnational History (2019), Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (2016), and Sara Baartman and the Hottentot Venus (2009). She co-organizes the Emory Ebola Faculty and Community Forum and leads online courses like 'Understanding Violence' and 'Journeys to Education.'
Prof. Scully chairs editorial boards for the Oxford Encyclopedia of African Women’s History and Journal of Southern African Studies, and has held roles as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Deputy Editor of the Women’s History Review.
Her research emphasizes gender justice in post-conflict settings, transnational methodologies, and the intersection of history with contemporary social movements. She advocates for inclusive education through initiatives like First-Generation student support programs.
