Dr. Pamela Abbott is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems at the University of Sheffield's School of Information, Journalism and Communication. She holds degrees from the University of the West Indies, Waterloo, Cambridge, and has over 11 years of academic experience across institutions in the UK and Ireland. Her research focuses on global sourcing, ICTs in development, and sustainable e-infrastructure, particularly in African contexts. Notably, she won the AIS Senior Scholars Best Paper Award and secured £69,931 in research funding. Abbott has contributed to Horizon 2020 projects promoting African scientific networks and has authored/co-authored over 50 publications. She teaches courses like AI in Organizations and Information Systems Modelling, emphasizing active learning and industry engagement. Current PhD advisees include Jihad Al Wahshi, Lily Sepulveda Garcia, Elijah Chirwa, and David Pinto. Professional roles include Senior Editor for the Journal of Information Technology and external examiner positions at Oxford Brookes and University of Galway.
Her research spans global sourcing location dynamics, knowledge processes in outsourcing, and ICT4D's contested role in development. Recent work explores hybrid work models, AI in education, and digital identity in Caribbean contexts. Abbott collaborates extensively with Chinese and African scholars, addressing challenges in telecentres, mobile money, and agricultural data governance. Her work bridges theory and practice, advocating for sustainable and equitable ICT interventions in developing regions.
