Judith Leo, Ph.D., serves as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar-in-Residence at Meharry Medical College's School of Applied Computational Sciences since August 2024. Concurrently, she holds a permanent position as Senior Lecturer and Chair of Cybersecurity and Privacy at The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Tanzania, leading multidisciplinary research at the intersection of technology and societal challenges.
Her academic foundation includes a Ph.D. in Computer Science through a sandwich program (Oldenburg University, Carleton University, NM-AIST), an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Science and Engineering (NM-AIST), and a B.Eng. in Electronics and ICT (Visvesvaraya Technological University, India).
Dr. Leo's research integrates Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and IoT to develop sustainable technological solutions for critical issues including healthcare access, educational equity, climate resilience, and food safety. Her work emphasizes low-cost, deployable systems tailored to African contexts, such as mobile-based tools for mycotoxin detection in maize and school dropout prevention.
