Professor Pam Birtill (she/her) is a Professor in the Psychology of Learning at the School of Psychology, University of Leeds. Her work bridges learning theory, student experience, and food-related behaviors, with a focus on assessment strategies, student belonging, and promoting healthy eating habits.
Education:
- MA in Natural Sciences, King's College, Cambridge (specialized in Psychology).
- DPhil in Psychology, University of York (supervised by Simon Killcross and Geoff Hall).
Research Interests: Her research spans two primary areas: (1) Student experience, including factors affecting belonging, success, and feedback mechanisms, and (2) Food-related behaviors, such as fussy eating and strategies to improve dietary choices in children and adolescents. She collaborates with the Curriculum Redefined team and Healthcare and Food Sciences colleagues.
Scientific Awards and Honors:
- National Teaching Fellowship (2024).
- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Advising and Grants: She supervises PhD and MSc students, including Nicholas Reimann, Liam Chawner, and Karen Arzate Quintanilla. Her team includes postdoctoral researcher Dr Meng Li, and she holds a Research England grant to study student belonging in green spaces. Collaborations extend to the Hyde Park Source project and the University City Central Campus in Mexico.
