Pablo Heidrich is an Associate Professor at Carleton University’s Faculty of Public and Global Affairs, specializing in international political economy with a focus on natural resources, development, and trade policymaking in contexts of financial crises. His research examines the interplay between ideas, policies, and practices in economic development, particularly in the Global South.
Dr. Heidrich holds a B.A. from Manhattanville College, an M.Phil. from the University of Tsukuba (Japan), and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Before joining Carleton in 2014, he served as a senior researcher at the North-South Institute in Ottawa and as a policy researcher at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences in Argentina. His current research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), building on prior support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Ford Foundation, Marshall Foundation, and CIDA.
His research interests include Canadian mining investments in Latin America, global trade governance, WTO negotiations, and comparative regionalism. He has published extensively on topics such as resource nationalism, trade policy responses to financial crises, and the role of regional agreements in shaping development trajectories.
