Oğuz Alyanak is a cultural anthropologist and Research Fellow at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, where he works with the Fairwork project through October 2025. Previously, he was a Volkswagen Stiftung postdoctoral fellow at the University of Göttingen (2019-2020). His academic journey culminated with a PhD in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2019.
Dr. Alyanak's research spans labour migration, urban studies, religion, and masculinity, with increasing focus on digital economies and platform work. His anthropological approach emphasizes the lived experiences of workers and migrants, connecting micro-level interactions to broader structural conditions. His work bridges traditional ethnographic methods with contemporary digital research approaches to provide nuanced understandings of contemporary work transformations.
His recent publications analyze platform labor standards in Germany, the moral geographies of migrant communities, and the intersection of faith and pandemic responses. Dr. Alyanak's anthropological perspective reveals how digital platforms reshape traditional labor relations and worker protections, with findings that have informed policy discussions in multiple countries.
