Özgü Karakulak is an Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship (Strategy and Marketing) at the University of Sussex Business School. She serves as Deputy Director of Internationalisation and coordinator of the Junior Research Associate (JRA) Scheme. Previously, she was a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford and completed her PhD at the University of Geneva. Her research focuses on cross-sector partnerships, social enterprises, and institutional change, with a particular interest in addressing grand challenges like poverty and global health. She has published in journals such as Journal of Business Ethics and Public Administration Review, and her work emphasizes organizational dynamics in complex societal issues.
Educations: PhD in Management (University of Geneva, 2019), MA in Development Studies (University of Manchester, 2009), and BA in Economics (Sabancı University, 2008). She holds a PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Sussex.
Research interests include cross-sector collaboration frameworks, social innovation, and the role of symbolic work in institutional transformation. She has led grants such as the Swiss National Science Foundation-funded project on tackling gender inequality through partnerships. Her teaching spans entrepreneurship, strategic management, and social innovation modules at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Özgü is actively involved in editorial roles, including co-editing a Journal of Business Ethics special issue on responsible business during conflicts. Her engagement extends to UN consultancies and impact initiatives like supporting refugees through skills-building programs.
