Owen West

Owen West is a Senior Lecturer in Policing at the School of Law & Criminal Justice. Formerly a Police Chief Superintendent in West Yorkshire Police, he retired from operational policing after serving 30 years. His career included leading Specialist Operations commanding 1,600 officers, overseeing counter-terrorism, firearms, and covert operations. He holds a Master’s (Distinction) from the University of Cambridge.

Research focuses on crowd control, protest policing, and football policing strategies. He co-directed the 'Enable' project studying international football policing approaches in Sweden, Switzerland, and Denmark. Regular media contributor via podcasts, articles, and conferences in the US and Europe.
