Oscar Guardiola-Rivera is Professor of Human Rights and Political Philosophy at Birkbeck Law School, University of London, where he also serves as PGT Director and PGT Dissertation Coordinator. His authored books include 'What If Latin America Ruled the World?' (2010), winner of the Frantz Fanon Award, and 'Story of a Death Foretold' (2013), shortlisted for the Bread & Roses Award.
Research examines human rights theory, political philosophy, decolonial methodologies, and intersections between law and art. Current projects include peace-making processes, mediation in conflicts, and the politics of international law with emphasis on racial justice and decolonial approaches.
Recent publications explore poetic traditions of revolt, violence in contemporary art, pandemic lawfare, and creolization methodologies. Guardiola-Rivera curates interdisciplinary events bridging art, activism and scholarship including the annual 'Focus on the Funk' gathering.
He supervises doctoral researchers working on postcolonial theory, human rights critique, and legal philosophy. Administrative responsibilities include leadership roles in postgraduate teaching and research at Birkbeck Law School.
