Orly Shenker is a Professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, specializing in Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Mind, and Foundations of Physics. Her work focuses on reductive type-identity physicalism, particularly in "Flat Physicalism," which challenges non-reductive approaches by analyzing statistical mechanics and computational neuroscience. She collaborates extensively with Meir Hemmo and has directed the Sidney M. Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine.
- 2024: Modelling Thought vs. Brain
- 2023: Computational Neuroscience and Physicalism
- 2022: Thermodynamics, Levels of Reality, Quantum Interpretation
Her recent research explores the implications of quantum mechanics and computational theories for metaphysical frameworks, arguing against the universal validity of thermodynamic laws and functionalism. Scientific awards include the Eleanor Roosevelt Chair and directorship of the Edelstein Center. She has held academic positions at Haifa University, Open University of Israel, and London School of Economics.
