Dr. Orlando Rivera is a Lecturer in the Department of Exercise Sciences and Recreation at Lehman College, CUNY. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Health Sciences (Movement Science) from Seton Hall University (expected 2024), a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from William Paterson University (2017), and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from The College of Saint Rose (2009).
His teaching focuses on undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science courses, including theories of strength and conditioning and motor learning. As the Exercise Sciences Internship Coordinator, he oversees student internships. His research interests include markers of human performance, fat oxidation in endurance athletes, barbell velocity for athlete auto-regulation, and hypertrophy.
Dr. Rivera is certified as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and Functional Movement Screening practitioner. He has volunteered in coaching sports teams, worked as a personal trainer, and contributed to teaching and advising roles at other institutions. His personal interests include competitive powerlifting, sports nutrition, running half-marathons, reading, and comic books.
