Oriele Benavides Salazar is a Lecturer in the Department of Language and Literature at the Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), Venezuela. Her research focuses on the intersections of feminist politics, democracy, and literature in late-twentieth-century Latin America, with a particular emphasis on overlooked conferences of women writers from the 1980s. She combines literary historiography, critical theory, and archival methods to examine how these gatherings reshaped literary communities through transnational solidarity.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree at Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV).
- Master’s degree at Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB).
- Studies in Lacanian psychoanalysis at Nueva Escuela Lacaniana (Caracas).
Her work critiques the role of mass media in national identity formation, as seen in her analysis of Ana Teresa Torres’ novel The Last Spectators of the Battleship Potemkin. She has published articles on Roberto Bolaño, Martin Kohan, and Venezuelan cultural dynamics, alongside contributions to the magazine Mentekupa on figures like Clarice Lispector and Albertina Carri.
