Oren Kroll-Zeldin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco and Assistant Director of the Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice. His work focuses on Jewish identity, social justice, and the Israel-Palestine conflict. He co-founded Mapping Jewish San Francisco, a digital humanities project examining Jewish Bay Area identity, and directs the Beyond Bridges program for Israel-Palestine educational initiatives. Kroll-Zeldin has led study trips to Israel/Palestine and trained with the School for Peace in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salaam. His research bridges anthropology, social justice advocacy, and Middle Eastern studies.
Education: PhD (201?) and MA in Cultural Anthropology from California Institute of Integral Studies; BA in Religious Studies from Skidmore College.
Research Interests: Jewish identity complexity, Judaism-social justice intersections, Middle Eastern anthropology, Palestinian resistance strategies, and decolonial frameworks. He critically engages Zionism and advocates for Palestinian justice through academic and activist work.
Publications emphasize Palestinian solidarity, pro-Palestine Jewish activism, and cultural expressions of identity (e.g., his book Unsettled critiques American Jewish-Zionist alliances). His writings appear in Jerusalem Quarterly, Tikkun, and +972 Magazine.
Awards: 2017 USF Distinguished Adjunct Teaching Award for pedagogical innovation.
Professional Activities: Facilitator for conflict groups, director of educational programs, and co-editor of This Is Your Song Too linking Phish concerts to Jewish cultural identity.
