Arie M. Dubnov is an Associate Professor of History and International Affairs at George Washington University, holding the Max Ticktin Chair of Israel Studies. He directs the Middle East Program and serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute of European History. Trained in Israel and the U.S., his expertise spans 20th-century Jewish and Israeli history, with emphasis on the British Mandate period in Palestine and Zionist nationalism.
Education: Ph.D. in History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2010). His research explores intersections of imperialism, intellectual history, and partition politics. He has authored/co-authored books like Isaiah Berlin: The Journey of a Jewish Liberal (2012) and co-edited volumes such as Partitions: A Transnational History of 20th-Century Territorial Separatism (2019).
Research interests include the intellectual history of Zionism, British imperial strategies, and the cultural politics of memory. Awards include fellowships from the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Current projects examine ties between Zionist thinkers and British imperialism in the interwar period.
Teaching focuses on courses like History of Zionism, War & Peace in Israeli Society, and Partition, Transfer, and the Modern Middle East. His articles appear in journals such as Historia, Rethinking History, and Journal of Israeli History.
