Onofre Martorell Cunill

Professor Onofre Martorell Cunill is a University Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting in the Department of Business Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) with over 30 years of experience. He holds multiple significant roles including Dean-President of the Official College of Economists of the Balearic Islands, Vice-President of the Sa Nostra Foundation, and University Delegate to the University School of Hospitality of the Balearic Islands. He is also a Full Academic of both the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain and the Royal European Academy of Doctors.

Professor Martorell specializes in Corporate Finance and expansion strategies for the hotel sector. His research has resulted in over one hundred scientific publications including articles in high-impact journals such as Tourism Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. He has published six books, most notably 'The Growth Strategies of Hotel Chains' which was published in English and later translated into Chinese for distribution in Asian markets.

His work has been recognized with four six-year research terms (three for research and one for knowledge transfer) and six research awards, including the tourism research article award from AECIT awarded twice. Professor Martorell has participated in 14 competitive research projects at European, national, and regional levels and currently serves on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Tourism Economics.

As an educator, Professor Martorell teaches Financial Management of the Hotel Business and supervises final degree projects across multiple programs. He directs the MBA and MTA programs at UIB and has held various leadership positions including Director of the University School of Tourism of the Consell Insular de Eivissa for the past decade. His research group 'Direction and Management of Companies and Tourist Destinations' has been instrumental in advancing knowledge in tourism economics and hospitality management.
