Omur Acaroglu Ergun

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Omur Acaroglu Ergun is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mining Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. His academic journey includes a PhD in Mine Excavation and Mechanization from ITU (2000-2004), followed by a postdoctoral research at the Colorado School of Mines (2006-2007). He has held academic positions at ITU since 1993, including Assistant Professor (2009–2013) and Associate Professor (2013–present).

His research focuses on drilling and blasting in rock engineering, tunneling technologies, and fuzzy logic applications in mining machinery. Key projects include optimizing TBM performance, analyzing roadheader stability, and improving drilling efficiency in open-pit mines. He has advised numerous master’s and PhD students, supervising works on topics like TBM selection criteria and rock cuttability analysis.

Notable contributions include developing fuzzy logic models for TBM performance prediction and stability analysis of excavation machinery. His work aligns with sustainable development goals related to infrastructure improvement and efficient resource utilization. Current research involves investigating the effects of rock properties on excavation parameters and advancing mechanical excavation technologies for the Turkish mining industry.
