Deniz Tumac

Prof. Deniz Tumac is a Professor in the Department of Mining Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Faculty of Mines. His research focuses on Excavation Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, and Fortification, with expertise in TBM performance prediction, natural stone processing, and geotechnical analysis. He holds a PhD in Mining Engineering from ITU (2010) and has extensive experience in both academic and applied research.

• Completed over 15 research projects, including studies on TBM optimization and diamond wire cutting machines.
• Recipient of the Best Paper Award (ISRM & IGA, 2021) for contributions to rock mechanics.
• Supervised 9+ graduate students and authored/co-authored 63+ peer-reviewed publications.

Key research themes include: (1) Performance modeling of tunnel boring machines under varying geotechnical conditions, (2) Cutting tool optimization for natural stone industries, and (3) Soil conditioning effects on EPB-TBM operations. He has contributed to major infrastructure projects like the Dudullu-Bostanci Metro tunnels.
