Georgios Xiroudakis

Georgios Xiroudakis serves as an Assistant Professor in the Mining Technology Department at the School of Mineral Resources Engineering, Technical University of Crete. His research expertise spans Rock Mechanics and Fracture Mechanics, focusing on critical mining applications:

• Rock breaking mechanisms and cutter wear in drilling/blasting operations
• Experimental rock mechanics and mechanical rock cutting
• Underground stability analysis and safe design of open-pit mines
• Waste/tailings storage safety and renewable energy integration in mining
• Petroleum rock mechanics and hydraulic fracturing applications

Publication analysis (2008-2023) reveals escalating sophistication in geomechanical modeling, evolving from fundamental fracture mechanics to UAV-enabled waste management solutions and hazardous wedge stability systems. Recent work demonstrates strong industry relevance through practical implementations in tunnel design and mine safety protocols.

Professor Xiroudakis teaches core undergraduate courses including Rock Mechanics (MOP 402), Drilling and Blasting (MOP 403), and Underground Mining Methods (MOP 505), alongside postgraduate instruction in Mining Works Design (G&P 504) and Geoengineering (G&P 202).

He maintains active research within the Mining Engineering and Design Laboratory, directing investigations into fracture propagation dynamics, tunnel stability optimization, and sustainable mining practices through advanced computational modeling.
