Omri D. Shimron is an Associate Professor of Music and Piano Area Coordinator at the Department of Music, California State University, East Bay. He specializes in piano performance, pedagogy, and contemporary music, with a focus on integrating holistic approaches to teaching and historically informed performance practices. His roles include leadership in professional organizations such as the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) and adjudication for competitions like the US Open Music Competition and Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC).
Shimron holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, along with advanced degrees in Music Theory Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. His career spans teaching at institutions including Elon University and Hillsdale College, as well as international performances in venues like the Kennedy Center and collaborations with composers such as Christopher Dietz and Marco Alunno.
His research interests include the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), flipped-classroom methodologies, and faculty-student partnerships in course design. Notable achievements include his debut solo album of Frederic Rzewski’s 36 Variations on 'The People United Will Never Be Defeated!' (2014) and contributions to contemporary music festivals like SoundsCAPE in Italy.
